Lake Bogoria in Baringo County is a popular tourist attraction site due to its active geyser. The geysers produce stream reach in sulfur compounds, which are believed to be medicinal. The lake is also popularly known for the bubbling hot springs and steaming geysers and the pink and white swathes of flamingos. The reserve also plays host to the greater shy kudu, an antelope with spiraling horns as well as impalas, grant gazelles, cheetahs, waterbuck and with135 species of birds recorded.
Lake Baringo is fed by two rivers, El Molo and Ol Arabel and has no obvious outlet, despite it being one of the two freshwater lakes in the Rift Valley in Kenya, It lies off the beaten track in a hot and dusty setting and over 470 species of birds have been recorded here, occasionally including migrating flamingos.
Ruko Community Wildlife Conservancy:
Conservation of wildlife and amazing scenic environment at Longicharo provides an outstanding day-trip on the island. This small conservancy specializes in the re-introduction of endangered species and serves as an important holding site for new species whilst boasting magnificent scenery in the hilly escarpment and the acacia canopied grasslands.
Ensure to bring drinks and snacks for a Sundowner at the famous ‘Baringo Sunset’ over the lake in true Kenyan style.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Bogoria
6:00 am: Pick up at your City Hotel or at your residence.
6:30 am: Drive to Lake Bogoria
12:00 Noon: Arrive at the hotel for lunch.
15:30 pm: Depart for an afternoon game drive at Lake Bogoria
18:00 pm: Head to the hotel, enjoy evening swimming at the spa pool
20:00 pm: Dinner & overnight at the hotel
Day 2: Lake Bogoria to Nakuru
8:00 am: Breakfast and check out of hotel.
9:00 am: Drive to Lake Baringo for boat ride.
10:00 am: Walking Safari at Ruko Wildlife Conservancy
12:00 Noon: Drive to Nairobi with en route stopover for lunch in Nakuru.
19:00 pm: Drop off at your city residence or Airport
